Busting Stashes…a free pattern

Busting Stashes Every Chance I Get

We all know what it’s like when we look over at our gigantic piles, or buckets full, of yarn, right? We sigh wistfully, wishing we only knew which project to attempt first, or which to attempt at all. Or maybe we curse having too many projects and can’t settle on which to complete first?

I recently looked at my mounds of yarn, strewn in the closet in large vinyl containers, some still in a cardboard box that was opened but never unpacked, and I nearly wept. What the heck was I going to crochet next, and with which yarn? I had too much to choose from, and no idea what to do with any of it. It sat there, like a giant yarn monster that both mocked and frightened me.

Then I was told that I had to–just HAD to–start crocheting some baby items for an Etsy shop I’ve recently opened with the girlfriend. I thought that a baby blanket would be nice. Perhaps something that was soft, yet durable, and would withstand being thrown in the wash if needed. I didn’t have enough cotton yarn, that was both true and unfortunate. I had been hoping to find a way to use up all of the acrylic I had, though, which was a part of my attempting to be more “green” with my crochet. (I mentioned that in a podcast episode, if you aren’t sure what I’m talking about.)

Surely, I thought, a baby blanket would help destash some of the softer acrylic I had and, better yet, I could double-strand some worsted weight in order to make a more cushy, and warm, blanket for the cooler weather. (The fact that it would double the amount of yarn I would use up if I only single-stranded was an added bonus that I felt extremely clever for having thought of.) So, I merrily went along and dove headlong into crocheting a blanket.

I frogged four times before settling on this simple, but cute, design. I think it’s skill level allows anyone to crochet it, and work it up over a weekend. The double-stranding helps the project go by rather quickly, and there’s nothing I like better than a quick, relaxing project.

There are others, like myself, who probably look at their stash with disdain on the days they want to crochet, but lack knowing what in particular to crochet. I’m sure there are others, still, that just want to not have to think of the other projects that are taking too long, and want the satisfaction of crocheting something quickly.

So why not share with others what I devised for myself? Why not give the satisfaction up so others may greedily grasp for it?

Well, why not indeed…
