Crochet Academy, Seminar 1

Josi Hannon Madera’s Crochet Academy begins its first seminar February 28th. I’m looking forward to it as there has, to my knowledge, never been anything like it before. Of course, there’s never been anything like a lot of what Josi puts out into the crochet world. She pushes the envelope, that one.
I have my DK weight yarn all ready, the three suggested hooks, and I’ve begun my swatches so that I can be prepared for “Gauge, Drape & Substitution.” In other words, is it the 28th yet?
Probably shouldn’t tempt the hands of time, wishing for it to be 11 days later than it is, but I’m eager to find out what it’s going to be like, what’ll be said, what’ll be asked and found out.
Okay, maybe I’m a bit nerdy when it comes to crochet. Maybe I stop at every mass-produced piece of whatever as I try to pass by its steel rack. You know I really saw it from a distance and intentionally veered in its directions just because it happened to look like crochet. That is, it did before I got up close to it. It’s just plain nerdiness. I like to stop and figure out the stitches, and if it’s not crochet, I like to dissect it and think about how it could be reworked–which stitch(es) would I use; where would the decreases/increases be placed? It could be the ugliest thing in the entire store and I would likely still stop to turn it over in my hands. I may not want to crochet it, as a lot of what’s in your Wal-Mart’s, K-Mart’s, or even upper-end Department Store of le Pue suck, but it doesn’t stop me from thinking about the breakdown.
In a large way I think this is why I’m so eager for the Crochet Academy to get under way. The more I learn, the more I interact with what I don’t know, the larger the possibilities become in my mind. New creations await; new methods of constructing will exist for me.
Can’t get much nerdier than that, can you?
