Busting Stashes Every Chance I Get

MATERIALS:

  • 9mm (N) hook
  • Worsted Weight scrap yarn
(Yarn used in photograph was Red Heart Soft in solid colors: seafoam and chocolate.)

GAUGE:

  • 4.5 dc v-stitches/9 hdc stitches x 4 dc v-stitch rows/3 hdc rows in 4″ x 4″
  • It’s best to do a full repeat of the pattern as a swatch so that you can measure correctly.

NOTE:
The baby blanket (or small throw for an adult) is double stranded throughout, so this project is best for scraps of yarn, or yarn that you have plenty of but never figured out what to do with any of it.

NOTE 2:
Blanket will be 30″x36″ if the yarn stash prevails!

BEGIN PATTERN:

CH 80 with two-toned (TT; two strands, two different colors)

Row 1:
HDC in 3rd ch from hook, and HDC in each remaining stitch. CH 2 and turn.

Row 2:
HDC in each stitch across, CH 2 and turn.

Row 3:
HDC in each stitch across. Finish HDC with main body color (MC), CH 3 and turn.

Rows 4-8:
CH 3 counts as 1st DC, skip first stitch, *2 DC beneath top two-threads in next stitch, skip next stitch**, repeat * to ** until last 2 stitches. Skip second-to-last stitch, one DC in last stitch. CH 3 and turn.

Row 9:
Skip first stitch, *2 DC beneath top two-threads in next stitch, skip the following stitch**, repeat * to ** until last 2 stitches. Skip second-to-last stitch, one DC in last stitch, finishing DC with TT. CH 2 and turn.

Rows 10-11:
HDC in each stitch across, CH 2 and turn.

Row 12:
HDC in each stitch across. Finish last HDC with MC. CH 3 and turn.

Busting Stashes Every Chance I Get

Repeat rows 4-12 four times, for a total pattern repeat of 5, with the exception of the last stitch of the final TT repeat. Bind off instead of switching to MC.

BORDER:
Attach yarn to one stitch directly to the left of a corner. Ch 1, sc in same stitch. SC to next corner. In corner stitch, add a shell stitch of 1 sc, 1 dc, 1 sc. SC in next stitch, placing shell stitch in each corner. When you have crocheted a border all around, finish with a shell stitch in the corner, directly to the right of 1st single crochet, and slip stitch to single crochet stitch and bind off.

Weave in all ends.
